“As a Family Nurse Practitioner and practicing in a family practice clinic for several years, I had the opportunity to treat the 'whole' patient, not just one body system. I quickly learned that chronic pain was debilitating not only physically, but mentally as well. Chronic pain affects other comorbidities and limits daily function. I turned to pain medicine not only to broaden my scope of practice, but to participate in improving quality of life for those with chronic pain and assist them with returning to the activities they enjoy. Interventional pain medicine comprises several different modalities. When we tailor treatment to each particular patient, we can facilitate return to their level of function before pain became a daily reality or help them to come as close to that as possible. That is very rewarding for me.”
